Position Description:
Are you interested in applied research and evaluation? Would you like to get some real-world experience learning about the wide variety of federal grant programs, how to read grant solicitations, how to grant awards are made and how evaluation is integrated at the federal level? Our office is looking for an energetic graduate research assistant to join our team for the spring 2018 semester! We provide comprehensive and collaborative project development, strategic planning and evaluation services for K-State colleges and programs, state agencies, foundations and other universities.
As part of the team, you will work with our full-time staff and:
- Learn about grant proposal development for a variety of federal agencies (e.g., NSF, USDA, NIH, ED)
- Develop understanding of program evaluation, including expectations from government funding agencies as well as evaluation theory and methods
- Assist in developing Logic Models/Theory of Change, evaluation plans for proposals, and other supplementary documents required by grant funders
- Gain a general understanding of university administrative procedures to apply for and receive external funding
- Work with clients in institutions across the U.S. who are undertaking research projects in the fields of Science, Agriculture, Engineering, Health, Education, and other areas
Required Qualifications and Dispositions:
- Interest in applied research and evaluation.
- Familiarity with and some experience using qualitative and quantitative research methods, including analyzing and reporting qualitative data.
- Ability to produce polished work in a variety of written documents (including technical reports, research summaries and potentially manuscripts for publication).
- Experience in conducting literature reviews, document reviews or content analyses.
- Ability to use a variety of computer programs and applications for managing data, designing tables and graphs (in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and conducting data analysis.
- Capacity and willingness to learn research and evaluation methods

Flexible Work Schedule: 20 hours per week from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Schedule can be adjusted each semester; summer work is optional.
Graduate Students in our office are expected to have excellent computer skills, communication skills, and a commitment to team approaches for evaluation and research.
